9 Mid-Year Resolutions Worth Making

julio 26, 2021 4 lectura mínima

The mid-year mark is not as cool as the first day of a brand new year. There are no fireworks, no celebrations, and no countdowns to ring in the mid-year. Now, that’s just a shame. We think the mid-year deserves more fanfare and it certainly deserves its own set of resolutions.

Research shows that 80 percent of people abandon their New Year’s resolutions by February. That’s a pretty bleak statistic. Bleaker still is the fact that, without the rush of motivation that comes with a new year, we have even less of a likelihood of keeping our mid-year resolutions. So should we even bother?

The answer is a resounding YES! Making plans is better than not making plans. Having good intentions is always better than having no intentions at all. To accomplish anything worthwhile, we still need to set goals and commit to doing better every day.

So, let’s commit to finishing the year strong.

Here are 9 mid-year resolutions worth making.

1. Do that one thing you’ve been putting off since forever.

We all have something we mean, want, or need to do that we just haven’t gotten around to doing. It could be something like dyeing your hair pink, reading that book you bought months ago, or finally booking an appointment with your dentist.

Pick a date and write it down in your bullet journal. Because, let’s get real, it will never get done until you actually schedule it or give yourself a deadline.

2. Get accountability partners.

You are less likely to abandon a resolution or a plan if you tell someone about it. More so if you give that someone you told the power to hold you accountable to your word.

An accountability partner can also help encourage you and coach you along the way. The best part: you’ll be doing the same thing for them. Doesn’t that sound more fun than going at it alone?

3. Prioritize your health.

The last year and a half basically compelled us to take our physical and mental health seriously if we haven’t been doing so before. Now that the world has begun its slow crawl back to normality, it might be tempting to revert to complacency about our health.

Please don’t. Keep eating healthy, practice good hygiene, make time for regular workouts, and comply with expert-recommended health and safety protocols.

4. Do something nice for others.

Self-care is great, but have you ever done something nice for another soul without expecting anything in return? It sure beats slapping on a sheet mask at the end of the day.

Sometimes a selfless act is the best act of self-care you can do. Science backs this up. The concept is called helper’s high. Doing good can decrease feelings of stress and increase feelings of happiness and satisfaction. It just feels good and it can influence others around you to pay it forward.

5. Get a head start on the holidays.

Do you find yourself stressed and overwhelmed during the holiday season? Do you always promise yourself that next year you’re going to start your holiday shopping early? Make this the year you make good on that promise.

Begin your holiday gift list as early as now. Making lists is one of the things that your bullet journal is good for. Use it! Plus, you’ll save money by shopping early. Your future less-stressed-and-less-poor self will thank you for it

6. Follow through.

Remember the resolutions you made at the beginning of the year? How about promises you made to yourself and other people? So you’ve slacked off a bit or got distracted by more important things, but maybe it’s not too late. Pick up where you left off and JUST KEEP SWIMMING. Don’t give up just yet. A slight delay is better than dereliction.

7. Cross off items on your task lists.

Crossing off an item from a list is a powerful psychological motivator. It gives you a sense of accomplishment and a slew of other positive emotions.

So don't just turn a fresh page on your journal. Go ahead and cross off finished tasks, action items, and completed plans and events. It feels good!

8. Kick a bad habit.

What toxic habits do you have that are best left behind in the first half of 2021? Fess up, we all have them. :)

The difficult thing about breaking ingrained bad habits is that it requires daily commitment and ongoing effort. It’s a resolution you will need to make, not just once, but every single day starting now.

9. Reward yourself.

In the immortal words of Kris Jenner, “you’re doing great, sweetie.” If you’re reading this, you rock! You’ve been through a lot but you’re still standing and still making plans. That’s something. Celebrate that and reward yourself.

It doesn’t have to be a big deal, like a tropical getaway or a designer purse. Something simple like a new journal or cute pens and highlighters will do the trick. Stationery-lovers know what we’re talking about. Wink-wink.
