Bullet Journal Tips for a Productive New Year

December 21, 2022 2 min read

Preparing for a new year is always exciting. However, it can be challenging because what worked last year might not be the best this year.

Even though there are several tutorials on how to create a bullet journal or how to use it effectively, there are still questions that remain unanswered. You might wonder whether or not this method works for everyone? Or what type of supplies should you buy? Or even if there are any hacks that can help you get started quickly without spending too much time on research?

If you're not sure where to start, here are some helpful tips to make your 2023 more productive and stress-free!

Set the right intention.

You don't need to be a yogi to know that setting your intention is important when it comes to creating change in your life. Setting an intention is a great way to keep yourself focused on what matters most—and it's even better if you can write it down!

Make a list of all of your goals.

This can be anything from "exercise more" to "learn Spanish" or anything else you want to do in 2019. Write down every single thing that you want to accomplish this year, even if it seems daunting at first.

Start small.

If you're feeling overwhelmed by the idea of setting big goals, start with something small that will get you moving in the right direction. Maybe it's learning how to use a new app or trying out yoga for the first time. Once you've done that, move onto something else!

Make sure every resolution has a plan.

If it's going to take more than one day, write down what steps you need to take and when you'll be doing them, so that you can see at a glance where your time is going without having to look back over weeks' worth of journal entries.

Set reasonable expectations for yourself.

If you're not sure how much time you want to spend writing in your bullet journal every day, start small—just 5 minutes a day may be enough! You can always increase the amount later if you find it helpful.

Use what works for you.

If you love using stickers, go for it! If you prefer to write everything out by hand, that's awesome too. There's no wrong way to do this. Just do what makes sense for your needs and preferences.

Hopefully these tips have inspired you to evaluate your own journaling habits and get started with a system that will work best for you.

If we've learned anything this year, it's that the Bullet Journal system is highly customizable—so be gentle on yourself if the system isn't perfect immediately. After all, it took a lot of trial and error for creator Ryder Carroll to develop his key concept of Bullet Journaling.
