Tips for Incorporating Mindfulness into Your Bullet Journal

May 23, 2023 3 min read 1 Comment

Have you ever experienced working your way through your bullet journal and suddenly, you realise that you are not focused on what you are doing?

We’ve all been there.

You’re in the middle of something and you feel like a million bees are buzzing around your head. And it’s not just because you have plenty of things to do–it’s because you are trying to focus on one thing, and everything else feels like it’s distracting you.

That’s where the word mindfulness comes in.

Mindfulness is a buzzword in the health and wellness world, but it’s not just for yogis anymore. It’s a practice and a way of thinking that helps you live a more mindful life–one that is less stressed, more focused, and more productive.

There are so many benefits in developing mindfulness skills, and integrating them into your bullet journal can help you manage your time more effectively and make the most of your day-to-day activities.

So how can you do that? Here are some helpful tips:

1. Start with an Intention

Take a moment to think about what it is that you want for this month–what are you working toward? What are the things that will make your life better? Why is it important to you? Write down your intentions in your journal where they will be visible to you everyday.

2. Practice Gratitude

Incorporate a gratitude log in your journal and write down the things that you are grateful for each day. As much as possible, try to avoid writing something vague. Write down specific details about what you appreciate each day, and why. When you do this everyday, it will become easier for you to focus on what you have instead of what you don’t.

3. Use Mindful Journaling Prompt

A mindful journal prompt is a way to help you stay more focused and present during your bullet journal sessions.

Here are some of our favourite prompts:
  • What is one thing I can do today that will make me feel more peaceful?
  • What did I learn about myself from a recent challenge or difficult experience?
  • What are some small but meaningful things I can do to show appreciation for the people in my life?
  • What are some things that have been causing me stress or anxiety lately, and how can I address them?
  • What recent experience has brought me joy or happiness? What made it special, and how can I recreate that feeling?
  • What are some things that I've been avoiding or putting off? Why have I been avoiding them, and what steps can I take to move forward?
  • Describe a person who has had a significant impact on your life. What lessons have you learned from them, and how have they influenced your personal growth?
  • Reflect on a mistake that you made recently. What did you learn from the experience, and how can you avoid making the same mistake in the future?

4. Do some Art Exercise

You don’t have to be a pro artist to create beautiful art projects that incorporate mindfulness. Here’s one idea:

Grab your favourite pen, colour, marker or any other medium of your choice. Start by doing a freeform drawing of circles or loops without lifting your pen off the paper. The more times the lines intersect, the more spaces you’ll have to fill in. Once done, you can now start filling in those blank spaces with colours or patterns that you like.

Practising this art exercise will help you maintain a steady and clear mind.

5. Create a Page for Reflection

When you're reflecting on something, it's important to take the time to write it down and think about what happened, why it happened, and how you feel about it. The goal isn't necessarily for you to come up with answers or solutions—it's about being present in the moment and getting clear on what's happening so that you can make better choices moving forward. This is especially helpful when dealing with emotions or situations that are difficult or stressful.
